FREE-DIVING

If you are interested in being notified when we add open boat free-diving trips, please sign up on the form below.

Peace Dive Boat offers single and multiple day free-diving-specific trips that include entire days of diving at three to four different diving sites. Divers see white seabass, calico bass, halibut, barracuda and many reef fish. The focus of these trips is to hunt game with spears, but free-divers who don’t hunt are also welcome. Free-divers do not use scuba gear or any other external breathing apparatus. The diver holds their breath while they are underwater and surface when they need to take another breath.

To see our Open Boat Free-diving trips, please look at our SCHEDULE tab. For Free-diving trips that belong to a charter, they are listed on our calendar with “FREE-DIVING” in the title. All free-divers must sign the Liability Release form before being allowed to enter the water. Minors are all required to have a parent or guardian sign it on their behalf.

Free-divers are always welcome on our scuba trips, however, we can’t guarantee the dive sites we choose will be optimized for free-diving conditions. We try to accommodate everyone’s needs on the boat as best we can.

Equipment

No equipment is included or available on the boat. You must provide weights and personal dive gear for cold water. Our temperatures range from 52-70 degrees Fahrenheit.

You will need to provide you own personal equipment for cold water including weights, spear gun, dive knife, float line and high visibility float, your own ice chest with ice, fillet knife, and water-proof watch.

We suggest that you bring your own ice chest filled with ice to store and transport your fish home. To keep your fish secure while you are diving, we suggest that you bring a fish stringer. On board the fish can be stored in your ice chest or bring a fillet knife and your own zip lock bags and you can fillet your fish and store them in our game freezer.

All solo free-divers MUST carry a float line and a clearly visible float, kelp carrot or flag to: (1) Assist the Captain and crew in locating the free-diver (2) To make free-diver visible to all boat traffic. Buddy pairs we do ask you carry at least one float between you.

For your personal equipment we recommend that you buy or rent: 5mm-7mm Wetsuit with Hood, Boots and Gloves Mask, Snorkel, Strap Fins or Long Bladed Free-Diving Fins, Weight belt with quick release and we suggest about 10% of your body weight plus 4-8lbs.
