Lobster hunting trips are specifically for the California spiny lobster that lives from the Monterey Bay to the Gulf of Tehuantepec, Mexico. It has huge antennae, no claws and lives at depths of up to 213 feet. They eat sea urchins, mussels, clams and worms. They make great sport fishing with hoop nets, by scuba diving or free-diving. The season begins the Saturday before the first Wednesday in October and ends the first Wednesday after March 15th. The lobsters must have a carapace of 3 ¼ inches or they must be thrown back.
Peace Dive Boat offers several lobster dives throughout the season. Divers must have a current California Saltwater Fishing License with Ocean Enhancement Stamp and, if they plan to take lobster, a Spiny Lobster Report Card. The dive sites are chosen for the best places to get lobster, not necessarily for the best diving conditions.
Diving on the first day will be from sun-up to sun-down possibly with one night dive. On the second day, there will be three or four scuba dives before going home. All tank air fills and meals are provided, but divers must bring their own equipment or rent it from Peace Dive.
